If You Can’t Find It, CREATE It.
One of the biggest misconceptions about event planning is that every great idea already exists. It doesn't.
One of my favorite projects began with a simple question:
"Can we throw a Shrek murder mystery party?"
The answer was yes—but there was one problem.
There wasn't a game.
There wasn't a themed experience to purchase.
There weren't photo booth props that fit the vision.
So we created them.
At Shared Scenes, that's how we approach every event. We don't start by asking what's available. We start by asking what's possible.
Sometimes that means designing an entirely new guest experience. Sometimes it means creating custom games, styling one-of-a-kind spaces, or curating interactive moments that guests will remember long after the event ends.
Here's what this project reminded us:
Creativity beats convenience.
Limitations often lead to the most memorable ideas.
The experiences people talk about years later are rarely the ones that came straight out of a catalog.
How to Take a Theme Beyond the Décor
A theme can look great and still feel just like any other party. What makes it memorable is giving guests ways to experience the theme, not just see it.
Here are a few ways to make that happen:
1. Give guests something to do.
Think beyond entertainment happening around your guests. Games, challenges, prompts, interactive stations, or even assigned roles can make them part of the experience.
2. Let the theme influence the experience—not just the decorations.
Ask yourself: If guests stepped into this theme, what would they actually do? For our murder mystery, the story became an activity guests participated in rather than simply a backdrop for the party.
3. Carry the idea into the small details.
Photo booth props, signage, table details, favors, music, and even the way an activity is introduced can reinforce the larger story. Not every detail needs to be elaborate; it just needs to feel intentional.
4. Create moments that encourage connection.
Some of the best event experiences give people a reason to talk, laugh, collaborate, compete, or take photos together. Consider how each element can help guests interact with one another instead of simply moving through the room.
5. Don't let what's available determine what's possible.
You may not find the exact game, prop, activity, or décor piece you imagined. That's where creativity comes in. Adapt it, customize it, or when it makes sense create something new.
We believe the best experiences aren't pulled from a catalog—they're built around your story.
Whether it's a school event, corporate celebration, community gathering, or private party, we love turning "Wouldn't it be cool if..." into "I can't believe you made this happen."
✨ Creativity has no template. It has a vision.
That's the Shared Scenes difference.
What's the most creative theme or event idea you've ever attended—or dreamed of creating? We'd love to hear it in the comments.
